What is it that defines us as human beings? Do we exist only through the acknowledgment of others? The dance piece Out of Reach touches on the dilemma of wanting to be needed, but at the same time striving for independence.

The title Out of Reach refers to the deep human fear of sudden abandonment, to be deprived of the possibility to communicate with the outside world. But at the same time, we sometimes long to escape it all.

The five dancers share the same room as the audience that is placed on the stage. The dance is accentuated and lifted by Jukka Rintamäkis music and Markus Granqvist’s light design, that creates a feeling of the supernatural, the transparent and fragile but sometimes suddenly shifts into a heavy darkness.

Helena continues to deepen her close collaboration with the dancers Katarina Eriksson, Annika Hyvärinen and Åsa Lundvik Gustafson and begins a new collaboration with Philip Berlin and David Norsworthy.

Out of Reach premiere in Kungsbacka September 17, 2015 and is a co-production between Helena Franzén / Magma dance and Rum för Dans. The piece is the last part of a trilogy that started with Slipping Through My Fingers (2012) and Before I Change My Mind (2014).
