Going Astray will premiere in Vänersborg March 3 and will also be presented at Dansmuseet in Stockholm 13 to 17 April.
Helena Franzén’s new work Going Astray focuses on questions of physical orientation. On our ability to orient ourselves in space and in time. The capacity to physically orientate yourself is part of our mental adaptation to our surroundings. What is your physical identity and what are you expressing with your body?
In Going Astray the three male dancers challenge and examine each others strength through eye contact and touch. In the light design by Axel Norén the darkness has a great importance and the audience is challenged to perceive and experience the dance in other ways than just by seeing. Situations of spatial uncertainty and disorientation arises. No one can lead us through the last steps. The eye is tricked and other senses take over.
The composer Jukka Rintamäki has collaborated with Helena for the last ten years and will again compose original music for the new piece. This time he is joined on stage by two musicians playing the tuba and harp, which creates a unique sound for Going Astray.
